Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) are healing practices with proven results in treating psychological problems and improving physical health and well-being. MBCT is designed to help clients clearly see the patterns of their thinking so they can practice ways of getting in touch with their experiences instead of pushing away painful sensations and memories. The ability to clearly experience the interplay of thoughts, emotions and body-sensations, with compassion and non-resistance awareness, helps clients embrace polarities and paradoxes of life.

Mindfulness Training

Mindfulness Training slows our mind down, helps us pay attention to the present moment with acceptance and compassion in a safe framework for experiencing life's challenges. It's not uncommon to get caught in strong, negative energies, such as anxiety, frustration, grief and anger. But there is a big difference between noticing you are upset and being mindfully aware you are upset. It's the difference between being attached to the feeling as opposed to observing the feeling without reacting. This skill “response flexibility” is valuable if you want to be happy and attract positive experiences.

Mindfulness Training quiets the mind and frees us from the old, unhealthy thought patterns. Thoughts do not need to be disputed, fixed, or changed but are held in a more spacious awareness “clouds passing through the sky.” This frees us to observe, without reacting and see if there may be other ways to think about a situation.

Through a mindfulness-based approach, we cultivate a different awareness about regulating emotions and thoughts, rather than being addicted to attachments and an illusory sense of control. As we begin to accept what is without reacting, we connect with a deeper sense of ourselves, develop creative problem-solving strategies and lead more peaceful and authentic lives.
